Originating in April 1983 as a service offered by Smith Funeral Homes of Sugarcreek and Baltic, Ohio, Smith Ambulance Service, Inc. has grown to become the area’s largest ambulance service and medical transportation provider. Owner and President Robert L. Smith, a paramedic with over 49 years of ambulance experience, separated the ambulance service from the funeral homes in 1993 after opening a station in Dover, Ohio
The service expanded to New Philadelphia, Ohio on June 1, 1999; then opened a station in Uhrichsville, Ohio on August 17, 1999 after taking over the emergency medical services in the Twin City area.
Advanced life support ambulances are staffed 24 hours/day, 365 days/year at each station by highly trained paramedics and emergency medical technicians using the most up to date equipment. In addition to their standard training, Smith Ambulance paramedics are required to be certified in Basic Trauma Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Neonatal Resuscitation and must attend regularly scheduled continuing education classes. Because training is such an important part of our service, Smith Ambulance Service has it’s own training facility. We provide training to all our employees and any other emergency service provider in our area. Cooperation has always been important to provide the best service possible.
